Together for a new Africa in the celebration of MPPU: 25th Anniversary

Yesterday, 2nd May 2021. The Political Movement for Unity (Movimento Politico per l’Unità: MPPU) a movement initiated by Chiara Lubich celebrated the 25th Anniversary of its existence and commitment. The celebration was streamed  live at 2 PM ( Rome time) in Italian  and was translated in 5 different languages, bringing together more than 20 countries around the world. At the same occasion, a new commitment was launched, a personal and collective engagement for an appeal for a new quality of  politics and policies. The celebration was also an occasion to promote a free vaccine for everyone as a response to the pandemic.

In her intervention, Letizia De Torre, ex president of the international center of MPPU, talked about Together for a New Africa as a project that has a  huge possibility to renew parties with quality and skills. She added that it will be a new generation of  leaders for unity that will bring change even in countries where it is very difficult to see change now. “That is why it is absolutely decisive that these young people together with those of us who had been offering the experience,the skill and the passion that these young people are the main protagonists of the politics of Unity movement.”she added. Melchior Nsavyimana, the current project manager of T4NA and member  international center of MPPU,currently working with the UN in South Sudan during his comment said : “we are convinced in what we do, that the change in politics is important”.

The anniversary fell  in the United world week, an initiative of youth of Focolare movement, which always starts on 1st May and, is lived worldwide for 9 days,carrying out different activities.The theme of this year is “ #Daretocare”, an initiative launched 9 months ago since the start of a campaign called Pathway Dare to care. It invites everyone to take courage in caring, caring about our neighbours especially the vulnerable ones, Caring our humanity,our planet. The event put an accent on the importance of listening to young people and even children as a generation of active citizens.The opening ceremony showed the courage of children and young people in caring and acting for change.

Pope Francis during the Angelus of Sunday 2, May sent a special greetings to the Political Movement for Unity, and  wished  them  a good job at the service of good politics. In his conclusive words, Mario Bruni,the current President of the center of MPPU thanked the young people : Thank you, thank you especially to young people, we have seen today, 25 years there has been also a shift generation, which means together for a politics of quality and as the Pope said today: good politics, good policies, where we are all together with the whole world.
