From 8th to 12th November 2025, the Together for a New Africa (T4NA) network will host its final leadership training course of the second edition in the form of the Summer School 2025, under the theme:
“For a Sustainable Peace in Africa: Our Contribution”
This training marks a significant milestone — not only as the culmination of the current leadership program but also as part of the 10th anniversary celebrations of the T4NA initiative. Over the past decade, T4NA has brought together hundreds of young African leaders from diverse backgrounds, equipping them with the skills, values, and networks to foster peace, social cohesion, and development across the continent.
Why This Theme Matters: Africa’s Youth and the Reality of War
Africa is home to the world’s youngest population, with around 1.05 billion people under the age of 35 — about 70% of the continent’s population. Yet, too many of these young people have been directly or indirectly affected by armed conflict.
Recent estimates show that between 105 million and 175 million young Africans — 10% to 16.7% of all under-35s — have lived in or are currently living in conflict or war zones. These include regions in Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic, Burkina Faso, Mali, Nigeria, Mozambique, and Libya, among others.
This reality underscores the urgency of T4NA’s mission: empowering young leaders to be active agents of peace and reconciliation, building a future where every young African can thrive free from violence.
A Double Celebration: Peace Leadership and Global Connections
In addition to the training program, this year’s Summer School will coincide with two other major events:
- T4NA’s 10th Anniversary Celebration – A moment to reflect on the network’s achievements over the past decade and envision the road ahead.
- International Conference: “Cities, Communities, Care – Youth in Action for Sustaining Peace”
- Dates: 10th to 12th November 2025
- Occasion: Part of the 80th Anniversary of the United Nations
- Main Location: Nairobi, Kenya
- Global Reach: Connected remotely with other cities worldwide, creating a vibrant international platform for dialogue and collaboration on peacebuilding.
- Dates: 10th to 12th November 2025
A Call to Action
As Africa faces the twin challenges of conflict and rapid demographic growth, the role of young leaders has never been more critical. The November Summer School will be a space for participants to:
- Share innovative strategies for conflict prevention and resolution.
- Learn from seasoned peacebuilders, community leaders, and policy experts.
- Forge strong networks across African countries and beyond.
- Commit to concrete actions for sustainable peace in their communities.
Together for a New Africa believes that peace is not just the absence of war — it is the presence of justice, opportunity, and hope. As we celebrate ten years of empowering young African leaders, and as the world marks the UN’s 80th anniversary, we renew our commitment to shaping a continent where youth are not victims of war, but architects of peace.
