Together for New Africa-Come back to Africa is planning a training programme that will run from January 2019 to January 2021. The training will be interdisciplinary, intercultural and multi-perspective paths for New Leadership in Africa and the first three years are dedicated to around 100 young people from 7 countries named before.

It an integral formation to enable us to seize and assume the transformations and fractures, global ones and those of their own land, contemporary ones and those that are not yet remedied by reconciliation processes; capable of reflection and authentic dialogue until knowing how to bring out projects responding to the greater good of one’s own and of the other people; capable of radical personal commitment, resilient to corruption and power deviations.

What is the content and how is the training organized?

The contents of the leadership training project are the heart of the whole project. The opening session which will start from 1 January 2019 to 9 January 2019 provides an interdisciplinary look at Africa. Interdisciplinary will also be the confrontation between tradition and modernity, between nationalisms and universalism of the continent, between challenges and opportunities. The thematic sessions will address political and economic situations in Africa, and in particular the Eastern macro-region: the phenomena of corruption, identity ethnic conflicts, the position of African in international relations, the present and potential role of the African Union.

How it is organized?

Our methodology can be resumed in two points:

  1. First, the same didactic and educational lines, based on “cooperative & peer & service learning”. They will lead to the elaboration of a universal educational model and, at the same time, typical of African cultures in which existence and thought, traditional and contemporary cultures, expert knowledge and experiential knowledge; meet in a context of strong relational structure. Everything will be aimed at forming a “learning community” that – between a seminar and the next one, in the countries of origin, with the accompanying tutors – will have continuity and will be extended to other young people.
  2. The experience of combining “thought” and “life” in a dynamic of dialogue and reciprocity not only among students from different countries, but also between students, tutors and teachers. To each will be proposed a “pedagogical pact”, regularly powered by moments of sharing, integrating lessons and workshops. The style, the “rule” to which everyone adhere is the so-called “Golden Rule”: “Do not do to others what you would not want to be done to you” and “do to others what you would like it to be done to you”. This means: think, participate, listen, respect, propose … Always keep in mind the last, voiceless, those of their own people are in most suffering.
  3.  During these three years of regional training, trainees will be participating in leadership activities in their local communities with the help of the tutors. There will also be a network (regional network) of youth, led by the youth who participated directly in the training and those who participated in the local activities. It is expected that this project will help to reach a large number of young people and the communities as well as encouraging them to be protagonist in developing their communities.

Who can apply?

  • Young people aged between 20 to 35 from EAC and RDC Congo who believe in change (through their involvement, they will succeed in reaching their communities – families, schools, local communities, local and national institutions), motivated and already sensitive to the objectives of the project
