A Powerful Start to “Togetherness: Building Teams and Leaders for a New Africa

-

Today, 23rd September, marked the beginning of the highly anticipated Together for a New Africa (T4NA) Leadership Training, bringing together participants from 14 countries in both online and offline settings. Over 140 young leaders participated, united under this year’s theme, “Togetherness: Building Teams and Leaders for a New Africa.” The event set the tone for an engaging and insightful week of learning, collaboration, and leadership development.

The opening session was led by Prof. Justus Mbae, former Vice Chancellor of CUEA (Catholic University of Eastern Africa) and Chairperson of T4NA. In his inspiring introduction, Prof. Mbae eloquently emphasized the theme of togetherness and its critical role in shaping a new Africa. He highlighted the importance of the individual’s role in driving change, reminding participants that the foundation of meaningful transformation begins with personal passion, energy, and curiosity—attributes often most potent in youth. Prof. Mbae encouraged the participants to harness and channel these strengths, underlining that when managed effectively, they can lead to the desired change that Africa seeks.

Following Prof. Mbae’s address, Dr. Melchior Nsavyimana, the project manager of T4NA, took the stage to express his gratitude for the dedication and commitment shown by everyone involved in making this year’s training a reality. He commended the teamwork and efforts that have been demonstrated across all the countries represented.

Later, in The Wisdom Corner, Professor Declan O’Byrne, Rector of Sophia Institute University guided the participants through a reflective session on the challenges and opportunities of leadership in today’s world. His thought-provoking discussion explored the wisdom required to navigate complex environments and seize the opportunities that come with leadership roles. It was an impactful segment that resonated with participants, helping them to reflect on their own leadership journeys and the importance of wise decision-making.

The first day of the five days training course concluded with a sense of excitement and purpose as participants from diverse regions began connecting and collaborating. This training, which combines both online and in-person elements, is a unique opportunity for young leaders across Africa to build strong networks, enhance their leadership skills, and foster a sense of unity for the continent’s future.

Stay tuned for daily updates as the journey of this remarkable training program continues!
