Breaking Barriers in a Patriarchal Society
For millennial women, leadership has often been undermined, underrated, and—in many cases—completely overlooked throughout history. Only recently have we begun to uncover and celebrate the achievements of women across different societies, especially in Africa.
Miss Katushabe Joanita (Nita), a visionary leader from Uganda, is a singer, songwriter, telecommution engineer and Product manager, one of those women breaking through the boundaries of tradition. Growing up in a patriarchal society, she was aware of the expectations imposed on women—but she chose to forge her own path. Her ambition and resilience have made her a role model for emerging leaders.
Academic Excellence Meets Purposeful Leadership
Joanita’s academic journey reflects her drive for excellence and her professional background is nothing short of remarkable. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, a Postgraduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management, and a Master of Engineering in Communication and Information Systems. In addition to her technical expertise, Joanita is also musically gifted, holding a Grade 5 Certificate in Singing and a Grade 2 Certificate in Music Theory from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM).
Her technical expertise is matched by her passion for youth development. Joanita has over six years of experience in youth mentorship through the Youth for a United World Secretariat in Uganda, and she has been a dedicated tutor for the Together for a New Africa (T4NA) initiative since its founding.
A Commitment to Transformational Leadership
Miss Katushabe’s leadership within T4NA began in 2017, when the program was introduced to its first group of lecturers and tutors. She was among the pioneers from Uganda and remains actively involved today.
I see my participation in T4NA as my small contribution towards a better future for my country. Instead of sitting back and watching from the sidelines, I can help shape the concept of leadership and active citizenship among young people in Uganda.

This philosophy is evident in her actions. Despite a busy schedule, Joanita has guided two full T4NA cycles with consistent energy and dedication, thanks to the collaboration of fellow tutors and the T4NA Uganda team.
Ugandan participants under her guidance have actively led community transformation projects—ranging from education programs to medical camps—driving sustainable change and personal growth. “Anita can largely be agreed upon as a dedicated organized leader. A Dual Passion: Tech and Music
Balancing high-level responsibilities is no small feat, but Joanita handles it with grace. As a Product Manager in the telecom industry, she is focused on designing and delivering impactful solutions to customers. Yet, her creative side flourishes through music.
“I am also a singer and musician who enjoys creating music on my own and with others. It brings me joy, and at times, it challenges me to grow in ways that complement my leadership journey.”
Her career in tech and her love for music may seem worlds apart, but for Joanita, they are two sides of the same coin—both driven by a desire to connect, uplift, and innovate.
