The second training on Together for a New Africa is currently underway in Kenya bringing together over 100 participants from East Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo DRC.
With a lot of energy to transform the continent, the training theme is Identity crisis and leadership for Unity. The theme of the training was an inspiration from stakeholders and experts who together have realized that one main challenge the region is facing is identity crisis.
Together for a New Africa is an Initiative bringing together former and current African Students of an Italian based Sophia University Institute under the Fololare movement. The main objective of the project is to train young African leaders in promoting peace and Unity within the continent in line with the core values of the University and also in line with the core values of UNESCO AND THE African Union Agenda 2063.
During the training young people from participating nations will have an opportunity to share concrete experiences on local activities they are doing in their local communities towards promoting universal brotherhood. It’s a moment to dialogue together and understand each other better for a prosperous Africa. Students taking part in the training already participated in the first part training that took place between December 2018 and January 2019.
Together for a New Africa training is divided into three parts and the third part is scheduled to take place between December 2020 and January 2021. After the training the young people will be equipped with knowledge and skills to go out ready to transform their communities and their countries at large.
During his opening remark, Dr. Melchior Nsavyimana, the project coordinator said that he is encouraged to see participants from Rwanda and Burundi sharing the same platform to discuss how to promote unity considering the political tension between the two nations.
He added that he is also encouraged to see the readiness that all participants have to be part of the New Leaders who want to transform Africa.
“It is encouraging to see how many young people are exited to be part of together for a New Africa motivated by the urge to bring change in their local communities” Said Julius Kaburu, A youth Mentor from Kenya.
The participating countries are Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, South Sudan, Kenya and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
