Over 100 young people from various higher education institutions in central Mozambique gathered in the city of Chimoio, Manica province, for a transformative training seminar in June last year. The event, co-organized by Together for a New Africa (T4NA) Mozambique and the Association of University Final Year Students of Mozambique (AEFUM), aimed to equip the participants with essential skills in project development, management, and leadership.
Empowering Young Leaders for the Future
The seminar, held at the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Resources of Zambeze University, brought together students from Manica, Tete, and Sofala provinces. It marked the first edition of an initiative designed to strengthen the leadership capabilities of young Mozambicans, preparing them to take on challenges in their communities and future careers.
The event was enriched by the participation of T4NA Mozambique trainees, who served as the speaker and moderator, respectively. Their involvement demonstrated T4NA’s commitment to fostering homegrown talent and leadership.
Key Themes Explored
During the seminar, participants delved into critical topics on leadership and project management, covering essential themes designed to enhance their skills and understanding. A session on “The Art of Leadership and Know-How” explored the fundamental traits of effective leadership—competence, integrity, and vision—offering practical guidance on applying these qualities to lead projects successfully.
The “Gender Approach to Leadership” highlighted the importance of inclusive, gender-sensitive leadership, demonstrating how equality in leadership roles fosters more equitable and productive environments. Another key topic examined the role of youth associations in promoting a strong institutional image, recognizing the innovation and energy of young people as pivotal in strengthening organizational identity and impact.
The seminar also focused on “Project Development and Management,” equipping participants with practical tools to identify needs, plan activities, create schedules, and implement monitoring strategies to ensure project success. Together, these discussions provided a comprehensive foundation for effective leadership and management.

In his opening remarks, Diamuleto Banze, the T4NA Mozambique representative, stressed the importance of the seminar in shaping the future leaders of Mozambique. “This seminar is just the beginning. Leadership and project management are ongoing journeys, and we are committed to supporting each one of you by providing the necessary tools and knowledge to face future challenges with confidence and competence,” he emphasized.
The event concluded with a strong sense of motivation and empowerment among the participants, who left with new skills and insights to apply in their academic and professional pursuits.
